The Wizard Of Oz (1939)
Based on the original L Frank Baum story, The Wizard Of Oz, barely created an impact on its 1939 release. It wasn't until 1956, when it became the first movie to be picked up for a national televised premiere, that it started its way to becoming a family classic.

The musical tells the tale of a simple, lonely farm girl Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), her dog Toto, and her three companions on the yellow brick road to the Land of Oz -- the Tin Man (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), and the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger). Also a part of the story is the Wicked Witch (Margaret Hamilton), who covets Dorothy's enchanted ruby slippers and Oz (played by Frank Morgan, the founding father of the Screen Actor's Guild).

The film, which was shot in Technicolor, stood out with its creative production design, charged numbers and powerful performances.
