It is like a relay race.

The runners are actors from the Tamil cinema. In the last few decades, the baton has passed from the likes of MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan and Sivakumar to Rajnikant, Kamal Haasan, Vijayakant, Sarat Kumar and Satyaraj, to Ajit, Vijay, Vikram and Surya.

Now, Generation Next comes to take over from one that is in its thirties.

Agreed, in recent times, Vikram has had the maximum hits (Dhool, Sami and Pithamahan). Surya had the biggest hit of his career in Kaakha Kaakha. He was also one of the heroes in Pithamahan and some more interesting ones are coming out soon.

But the youngsters are catching up.

Here, rediff.com lists five Gen Next heroes. All of them are in their early twenties and have had big hits, except Silambarasan.
