Nagesh Kukunoor's directorial debut Hyderabad Blues was a phenomenal success. He followed it with two other films, Rockford and Bollywood Calling, but they did not fare as well.

3 Deewarein, earlier titled Three Walls, has been much delayed in the making.

Kukunoor claims the screening of a documentary on an Indian prison and a chance meeting with two ex-convicts inspired him to make this film.
