Lest we forget…

J P Dutta had sworn never to make a war movie after Border. But he decided to tackle the Kargil conflict of 1999, and all its heroes because, as he says, someone had to tell the story before we forgot.

Bollywood's war specialist set about assembling a cast that included 27 actors like Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Saif Ali Khan and Manoj Bajpai and 11 actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Esha Deol, Raveena Tandon and Isha Koppikar.

The Rs 30 crore (Rs 300 million) film was shot in breathtaking locales in Ladakh over grueling schedules that seem to have evoked a surge of patriotism in its stars.

LoC has evoked mixed reactions. While some could not rave enough about its nobility, others found fault with its length (4 hours, 10 minutes), its documentary feel and lack of cinematic appeal.
