'Vivek is a perfectionist'
Meghna Oberoi on her brother
|
'My brother, my hero'. That is Vivek Oberoi's kid sister Meghna.
The 24-year-old sibling of the talented actor talks about her protective elder brother:
As kids, Vivek and I were very close. Being in the same school, we also fought a lot. He always pretended to be the macho man and would threaten anybody in school if they looked at me.
My brother was, and has always been, my hero, after Dad.
I always wondered how he knew which boy I had spoken to, even before I told him myself. The mystery was solved when I realised he had spies. He eased a bit in college, though he would make sure I was picked up from parties at night. He even taught me how to sit when I wore a short skirt or how to handle a low neck top!
In college, most of my friends were crazy about him. Ever since my brother was 13 years old, women have been chasing him. He enjoyed it --- he has always been a ladies' man. I am happy that he is serious about Gurpreet [Vivek's fiancee].
Vivek is very friendly, intelligent and focused. While he can be very open and creative, he can also be very rigid about his ways once he has made up his mind. Besides, he talks too much.
He has wanted to act ever since he was eight. He would watch Daddy closely and imitate him. He's a perfectionist. When he was working as character of Chandu Nagre (in Company), he was completely obsessed by it.
He would practise his dialogues and get dad to listen to him while he prepared for a scene. He drove everybody crazy worrying about details --- his hair, his costumes etc.
Nowadays, he is very busy. I have to remind him of my existence.
I remember when the first Company poster was put up at Juhu. My cousins and I bundled up in a car and went to see it in the middle of the night. It was such a high!
I have seen most of Vivek's plays. But I realised he was a good actor when I saw the tapes of his improvisations at Namit Kishoreji's classes. He was playing the role of an emotional person. This was tape that Dad showed Ramuji.
According to me, he has handled success, hype and media curiousity much better than I thought he would.
