Getting Urmila Matondkar to do a Chamma chamma for China Gate didn't exactly help the film sell tickets like Mamta did in Ghatak.
Though it wasn't from lack of effort on the part of Urmila. She tried her best, dressed to perfection by designer Manish Malhotra. It didn't work.
The song, though, succeeded in irking Mamta Kulkarni, with whom director Rajkumar Santoshi had a fallout during the making of China Gate.
Because Urmila is said to have charged the filmmaker a whopping sum for the six days it took to shoot the number.
Mamta later pointed out, "I don't even think that she managed to hilao (move) Calcutta, forget UP and Bihar."
Urmila, for her part, milked the film for what it was worth as she stared out of CD covers, posters and more... leaving the main artistes of the film out in the cold.
