Yes, Manisha and Madhuri had both been signed for the main role.

Manisha's face looks more vulnerable and sensitive than Madhuri, who has a confident look.

I wanted someone who looks vulnerable to match the character. So, in the end, we decided to give Manisha the role. Madhuri didn't have a problem with it.

So Manisha plays Vaidehi; Madhuri plays Janki.
