The Congress on Tuesday made it clear that there was no scope for further negotiation with the Samajwadi Party for any pre-poll alliance in Uttar Pradesh [Images] as it has declared candidates for most of the parliamentary seats in the state. "The Samajwadi Party has already put out candidates. So where is the scope for talks," All-India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh told media persons in New Delhi [Images].
The Samajwadi Party has declared candidates for 74 parliamentary seats out of the 80 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has also announced candidates for 24 seats. Both the parties were locked in hard bargaining over seat-sharing raising questions over the future of their alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh along with party leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi met Election Commission and complained about "misuse of power" by Mayawati [Images] government in Uttar Pradesh for "political gains".
"The Mayawati government is publishing advertisements which would favour the Bahujan Samaj Party in the upcoming elections. There are a lot of anomalies in the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh," Joshi said.
She said the UP government has transferred a number of police officers in the recent past. Their transfer should be reviewed and adequate security arrangement should be made in the state during elections, she said.
