So, how did things come to such a pass. Congress insiders from the region, who are not happy with the developments, narrate the sequence.
"When the nominations were discussed by the party high command, Veenadidi had asked for either Sidhi or Satna. Rahulbhaiyya had not even applied for any seat. But it was understood that he would be given one of the two seats," says a Congress insider in Sidhi.
In fact, he says, Ajay was in Sidhi on the day the Congress list was released and was preparing to launch his campaign. "Rahulbhaiyya was actually sitting with Inderjith, who immediately requested bhaiyya to campaign for him," he adds.
When Ajay began campaigning for Inderjith, the party workers understood that he had accepted the party decision. But on the last day for filing nominations, Veena entered the fray. "This confused a lot of supporters. They did not know what to do. As expected, there is now didi as an Independent on one side and Rahulbhaiyya and Kunwarsaab (Arjun Singh) on the other side, canvassing for the Congress," the insider said.
This has left Arjun Singh's supporters so confused that some are seen in Veena's company by day and moonlighting with Patel later on.
"By the look of it, Veenadidi seems set to win at least 70,000 votes. But there is no chance that she will win," he feels.
Told she is determined to prove the party wrong and avenge the insult to her father, the insider shoots back. "When the results come, dekhiye dau ka izzat kaise bachayi usne (see how she saves her father's honour when the results are declared)."
