'She has put all criminals in jail'

April 17, 2009
On the road from Lucknow to Faizabad where Mayawati is to address a huge rally on Friday, thousands of BSP supporters wave flags and shout slogans praising her government and her work.

Krishna Kumar Pandey, Gajendra Pratap Singh and Shiv Pujan are waiting for a party bus to reach the BSP rally.

The irony is that all three men hail from different communities: Pandey is a Brahmin, Singh, a Thakur, Pujan, a Pasi(a scheduled caste). The trio are hardcore Mayawati supporters.

Asked how a Brahmin and a Thakur support Mayawati whose early politics was directed against the upper castes, Pandey says, "There is no record of this. These allegations are false and propaganda by people who are against Mayawati."

Adds Singh, "I have never heard Behenji saying this. How can anyone make such allegations against her?"

When asked what the best thing Mayawati has done since the BSP came to power with a majority in May 2007, Pujan says, "Law and order. She has brought back law and order in the state. Goons were ruling the state, but Behenji changed all that. She has put all criminals in jail."

"Do you know that she has also put three of our leaders and ministers like Anand Singh Yadav, Shekhar Tiwari and Umakant Yadav in jail for unlawful activities?" adds Pujan. "She is the right person to rule Uttar Pradesh."
