While this takes care of the law and order situation in the district the problem of issuing duplicate voter ID cards to the riot affected refugees scattered across Raikia, Mondasur and Mondakia relief camps is yet another problem that Krishan Kumar is tackling on a war footing.
"There are three levels of surveys and re-surveys that the district administration has undertaken so that the majority of people who lost their voter ID cards during the riots get a chance to vote," he tells rediff.com.
For this purpose the administration has started a toll free number (1800345678, open from 6 am to 10 pm) for the riot-affected to register themselves for re-issuance of their cards. Extensive ads across major English and regional language papers have been displayed to help people get duplicate voter ID cards. Posters across village panchayats and outside relief camps too have been plastered for the affected people.
Till date more than 2,200 duplicate voter ID cards have been issued out of which 400 were issued after complaints were registered on the toll free numbers adds Krishan Kumar. The process is on and continue till April 12 by when he will again run a survey of all those who have not secured their cards "and try to issue voter ID cards to the last person possible."
