Simran campaigns for Amma
Two girls sitting next to me -- Vasanthi and Priya -- couldn't suppress their excitement. They had come very early so as to get seats in the first row to get a good glimpse of Simran. Both of them have just graduated in Commerce and are in search of a good job, and it was for the first time in their 21 years of life that they were attending an election public meeting.
"We are great fans of Simran. She dances and acts very well," they said in unison. They are also going to vote for the first time in their lives, but that was the least of their concerns. They just couldn't take their eyes off Simran. Every time a television cameraman stood up blocking their view, their faces fell. "He's obstructing our view. Will you please tell him to sit down?" they would make a request to me.
