Decision on Haryana CM tomorrow
March 03, 2005 17:27 IST
The Congress will decide on the new Haryana chief minister on Friday. Party's central observers, Union minister P M Sayeed and All India Congress Committee general secretaries Ashok Gehlot and Janardhan Dwivedi, announced this after talks with Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday. The Congress has got 67 members of the Legislative Assembly in the 91-member House. The Haryana Congress Legislature Party had authorised Sonia Gandhi to decide who the next CM would be. The meeting comes a day after the three observers submitted a report after ascertaining the views of the 67 MLAs. Asked if the delay in deciding the next CM indicated an internal tussle for the top post, Dwivedi said any major decision took time. Dwivedi said the party had not put any bar on a member of Parliament becoming the chief minister. Some leaders in race for the CM's post had wanted MPs to be kept away from contention. At least two chief ministerial aspirants - Union minister Selja and party leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda – are MPs. Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief and former state CM Bhajan Lal is the frontrunner for the post. Others in the fray include working PCC chief Randeep Surjewala, his father and former PCC chief S S Surjewala and party MLA and industrialist O P Jindal.
