The reaction of the people of Nashik was quite dramatic when Sonia walked onto the stage.

Apparently her spin doctors had ensured that she would make her 'regal' entry, as one local Congress activist put it, after the dust had settled and the other leaders had settled in their chairs.

Men, women and children elbowed and jostled each other to get a glimpse of her, proving that the Gandhi charisma was intact.

The leaders stressed the need to re-elect the Congress-NCP so that the Congress-led government at the Centre could solve their problems better.

But the Sonia-struck crowds... were they listening?
