SC bans political advertisements on TV

April 02, 2004 13:59 IST

The Supreme Court on Friday banned all political advertisements on cable and terrestrial TV channels.

Overruling an Andhra Pradesh high court order allowing political advertisements to be aired on television, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice V N Khare also said all those advertisements which are "shocking, disgusting and revolting" must not be allowed on television.

The court asked the Election Commission to monitor such advertisements.
