Swami sent to J&K to review security arrangements

Election 2002

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Minister of State for Home Affairs I D Swami left for Jammu and Kashmir on two-day trip on Wednesday.

He would be flying to Srinagar on Thursday morning.

Swami would take stock of the law and order situation in the state and have a series of meetings with the state police and paramilitary officials to review the security arrangements in the wake of the terrorist attack on Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar.

He would also meet Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and Governor Girish Chander Saxena.

Swami's review of the arrangements assumes significance in the context of the third anf fourth phase of polls to be held on October one and eight respectively.

Anantnag, Kathua, Udhampur, Katra and Doda will go to the polls in the last two phases.

Swami will also visit Anantnag district.
