The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said it is in favour of setting up a 'regional council' for Jammu and Ladakh, ruling out the demand of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to trifurcate Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, said, "Trifurcation is not a solution for the problems [of Jammu and Kashmir]." He added the regional councils should be given 'enough' administrative and financial powers to 'look after their needs'.
Naidu ruled out the possibility of talks with J&K militant organisations.
He said, "The BJP is in favour to take the regional aspirations of the people into consideration to give them their due justice".
Responding to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sushma Swaraj's statement that the BJP would talk to the people demanding trifurcation, he said, "We do not have any objection in talking to them."
