Attempt on J&K tourism minister's life

Election 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Minister of Tourism Sakina Itoo escaped unhurt in yet another attack by militants at Mirhama village in Anantnag district on Saturday.

Two persons, including a Central Reserve Police Force officer, were killed and four wounded when militants triggered a landmine blast as the heavily guarded motorcade of Itoo passed through Mirhama.

Sources said the escort vehicle behind the bulletproof car of Itoo bore the brunt of the blast. A CRPF inspector was killed and three jawans injured.

A woman bystander was also killed and her son hurt.

Saturday's attack was the second on the life of Itoo this week.

Militants also threw grenades at her residence twice, but she was not at home at that time.

In a separate incident, militants shot dead the driver and cleaner of a truck in Hardigam village in south Kashmir.
