Onkar Singh in Jammu
The National Conference president Omar Abdullah on Friday said the Congress is living in a world of dreams if it believes that it can come to power in Jammu and Kashmir after the ongoing assembly election in the state.
"I was shocked to know that only 2,000 people attended Sonia Gandhi's rally in Srinagar on September 19 and another 6,000 in Jammu the next day. If Ghulam Nabi Azad had requested me, I would have sent thousands more to attend the rally and saved Sonia Gandhi the humiliation," Abdullah said at a public meeting on Residency road.
Reacting to remarks made by Chattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi about the Abdullah family having plundered the state, he said he was consulting lawyers to file a defamation suit against Jogi.
Taking on Panthers Party chief Bhim Singh, he said a party which is not even worth mentioning [in the context of Jammu and Kashmir politics] is now seeking to divide the state in the name of religion.
"Bhim Singhji if you have guts then share a platform with me and tell me when was it that the National Conference discriminated against Rajputs. Ajat Shatru is a Rajput and he is a minister in my father's cabinet and if we are returned to power, he will be a minister in my cabinet," he said amidst applause.
He said the ongoing election is not about the demand for trifurcation of the state, nor is it about going to war with Pakistan. "This election is about governance. Only those who can give you good governance have a right to seek vote from you and my party certainly has this right," he said.
Omar Abdullah made no mention of militancy in the state during his ten-minute speech. Nor did he touch on the issue of autonomy.
