Mufti says meeting with Sonia unlikely

Election 2002 Onkar Singh in New Delhi

People's Democratic Party chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has said it is unlikely that he would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.

"Since we are still talking on the common minimum programme, it is unlikely that my meeting with Sonia Gandhi would take place..." he told rediff.com

The Mufti said he is satisfied with the talks that he held with Congress leaders Manmohan Singh and Arjun Singh on Friday.

"We are trying our best to thrash out the common minimum programme. I had a meeting with Dr Manmohan Singh and Arjun Singh... These talks would continue today also," he said.

PDP vice-presidents Mehbooba Mufti and Muzzaffar Hussain Beg will assist their leader in the talks.

Mehbooba sounded confident that the talks would prove fruitful. "We are still at the preliminary stage. I am hopeful of an outcome," she told rediff.com
