Congress hopes for settlement with PDP

Election 2002 Congress leader Manmohan Singh has said the issue of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir would hopefully be settled when People's Democratic Party chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed meets his party president, Sonia Gandhi, in New Delhi on Friday.

"PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Sayeed will be coming here tomorrow. We will pick up the threads where I left," Singh, who met the PDP leader in Srinagar last week, said on the sidelines of a seminar on Indian economy in New Delhi.

Asked whether a formula has been evolved to resolve the impasse, he said, "I am always optimistic. One has to be optimistic while dealing with the problems of the country at large."

Singh did not give any timeframe within which the two parties would resolve the issue, but said, "I am hopeful. Let us meet first."
