The Democratic People's Forum, comprising six independent and two Communist Party of India (Marxist) legislators, on Wednesday indicated it was not averse to supporting a minority government led by the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Our group has been committed for working for a coalition government," Yousuf Tarigami, secretary of the CPI-M state unit and leader of the DPF, said. "We have been persuading the Congress and the PDP for narrowing down their differences on contentious issues."
Earlier, Tarigami had met J&K Governor Girish Chander Saxena along with three other independent MLAs Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Sofi, Raman Mattoo, and Hakim Yasin.
Asked if his forum would support a minority government led by the Congress, Tarigami said, "Is it not wise to replace the governor's rule with a popular voice?"
On the governor's response to the present political stalemate in the state, Tarigami said, "We feel that Saxena is uncomfortable with the present situation and wants to replace it with an elected one."
Tarigami said that the DPF will continue to work for providing a stable government in the state.
