Onkar Singh in Srinagar
The Jammu and Kashmir state intelligence has launched a search for two persons seen loitering near the venue of the National Conference working committee meeting in Srinagar on Sunday evening.
National Conference president Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, former J&K chief minister, both under Z-plus category protective cover, were attending the meeting in the house of party general secretary Sheikh Nazir at the time.
Militant outfits operating from Pakistan have recently announced hefty rewards for the assassination of the two leaders.
Reporters waiting for an official briefing also mistook the two persons wearing Pathan suits to be intelligence officers who had been assigned the task of keeping a watch for suspected terrorists.
A senior police officer confirming the incident said one of the suspects was over seven feet tall and the other over six feet. "This kind of height is unusual for Kashmiris. I can also tell you that they were not from the state police."
