J&K poll: Blast in Banihal constituency

Terrorists triggered a blast near a polling booth in Lambar in Banihal assembly constituency soon after polling for the fourth and final phase of election in Jammu and Kashmir commenced on Tuesday morning.

Details of casualties, if any, were not available immediately.

There are 70 polling booths in Banihal assembly constituency -- 18 of them hyper-sensitive.

The three main contestants here are -- Mohammed Farooq of the ruling National Conference, Mohammed Khan of the Congress and rebel candidate Abdul Rashid.

Chief Electoral Officer Riyadh Ahmed said that apart from the blast in Lambar the polling was so far peaceful in Banihal.
