EC transfers Kupwara superintendent
of police

Election 2002 The Election Commission on Saturday transferred the Superintendent of Police of Kupwara district, G M Dar.

Leh SP S D Singh has replaced Dar, official sources said.

The order came after independent candidate Abdullah Khan, who is contesting from Lolab constituency, which will go to polls on October 8, alleged that the SP was "behaving in a biased manner in favour of the ruling National Conference".

Station house officers of police stations at Sogam and Lalpora in the constituency were transferred two days ago following similar allegations.

Polling in Lolab, originally scheduled for September 16, was countermanded in the wake of the assassination of NC candidate and state Law Minister Mushtaq Ahmed Lone on September 11.
