The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday detained the acting chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Javed Ahmad Mir, and raided the office of the Islamic Students League to thwart their proposed anti-poll rally in Srinagar.
Seven activists of ISL were also picked up, official sources said.
Mir, who is also an executive member of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, was taken into preventive custody in Zainakadal area of downtown Srinagar.
Police sources said houses of several leaders of the Muslim League, another constituent of the Hurriyat Conference, were also raided, but no arrests were made.
