Samajwadi Party retains Mirzapur-Bhadohi LS seat

Election 2002

Samajwadi Party on Sunday retained the prestigious Mirzapur-Bhadohi Lok Sabha seat, when its candidate Ram Rati Bind scraped past his nearest BSP rival Narendra Singh Kushwaha by 4975 votes.

The seat fell vacant following the slaying of SP MP Phoolan Devi.

BJP nominee Ramchandra Maurya and Congress candidate Rajeshpati Tripathi were placed third and fourth respectively.

Phoolan Devi's younger sister Munni Devi, contesting on Rashtriya Kranti Party ticket, finished a poor fifth.
