Modi for 'appeasement of none and justice to all'

December 16, 2002 19:56 IST

Declaring that his government's motto will be 'appeasement of none and justice to all', Gujarat caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Congress should play the role of a constructive opposition.

"Criticism is needed in a democracy or else it will jeopardise the system, but it has to be within limits," he said.

Addressing a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party legislators, Modi said that his victory has brought greater responsibilities.

He said his government will strive to fulfill all the promises made in the election manifesto.

Modi also commented on the media and told the MLAs to be cautious while dealing with reporters. "People from the media say that I am unapproachable and therefore they speculate and report without confirming the facts."
