The Election Commission on Thursday night dismissed Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia's claim that his name was omitted from the list of voters in Gujarat. It said he was registered from Naroda Patiya constituency in Ahmedabad.

Deputy Election Commissioner A N Jha said the VHP leader was in the voter list of 78-Naroda in part 130.

He said Togadia and his family members were registered from serial numbers 154 to 159 and they were shown to be residents of Vraj Colony, Naroda.

Togadia had charged Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh with "deliberately excluded Hindus from electoral rolls".

"This is definitely a conspiracy against Hindu society by Lyngdoh, who has taken all care to include even displaced Muslims," he said.

Caretaker Chief Minister Narendra Modi also joined the issue. Addressing supporters in his Maninagar constituency soon after the conclusion of the polling, he said, "The Election Commission is answerable to what has happened. It ordered the revision of electoral rolls thrice in ten months, costing the state exchequer crores of rupees."

Lyngdoh told Star News channel that the people had a lot of time to respond if they found something wrong with the electoral rolls. "If they did not respond then they cannot blame others... I have got nothing to say."

Asked whether the rolls were available to political parties, Lyngdoh said, "Not only political parties, but individuals also."
