The Gujarat unit president of the Congress Seva Dal, Umakant Mankad, has resigned from the party to protest against "discrimination" in allocation of tickets for the December 12 assembly election.
Mankad, who is also a member of the All India Congress Committee, put in his papers on Wednesday evening and informed the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee leaders of his "dissatisfaction over the manner in which election tickets were given to candidates", party sources said.
Mankad, in a statement, has said it was "unjust" that honest and veteran Congress leaders were not given tickets to contest the election.
