Uma Bharti prefers Rabri to Sonia

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Uma Bharti today said she would even prefer Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi to Congress president Sonia Gandhi as prime minister.

Addressing a rally at Chatapur under the Araria parliamentary constituency, the firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party politician said the people of the country would never accept Gandhi as prime minister and the move to project her for the top post would boomerang.

Bharti predicted the Congress would split again, if it manages to form the government at the Centre after the election, on the issue of Gandhi's foreign origin.

Describing Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav as a "traitor", she said it was shameful that Yadav, who was born and brought up in India, now favours the candidature of a person of foreign origin.

She said Yadav's claim of forming a government within five minutes of the fall of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government only proved a damp squib, forcing another mid-term election on the country.

In another election meeting at Kahalgao in Bhagalpur constituency, Uma Bharti claimed that a large number of Congressmen would desert the party to support Prime Minister Vajpayee after the election.

Attacking the Left parties, she said they had been eliminated all over the world and would meet the same fate in India as well. She claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu would meet his electoral Waterloo in the next assembly election in that state.
