Manmohan Singh loses

Former finance minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh lost to his Bharatiya Janata Party rival V K Malhotra by over 30,000 votes from the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

The BJP retains the seat. Malhotra secured 2,60,014 votes as against Dr Manmohan Singh's 2,29,902 votes.

Sitting member and former Delhi chief minister Sushma Swaraj had won the seat by a margin of 1,17,000 votes defeating Ajay Maken (Congress) in the 1998 election.
