Congressman Ram Niwas Mirdha was elected in 1991, who took the seat back from the JD for his party. In 1996 , the Congress's Sona Ram defeated the BJP's Jograj Singh by 64,000 votes. Interestingly, this large constituency has not so far voted for the BJP.
