Elections 98
Given this seat's links with the Scindias, it was a cakewalk for the Rajmata in 1962, the first and only time she stood as a Congress candidate. In 1971 the Jan Sangh MP from here was Atal Bihari Vajpayee. When Vajpayee returned here in 1984, he was routed by the scion of the royal family, Madhavrao, fighting on the Congress ticket. Scindia has retained the seat since then, even in 1996 when he had come out of the Congress and formed his own banner, the MP Vikas Congress. While the BSP came second, the Congress won 5.65 % of the vote. |
