Former chief minister Yangmaso Shaiza (Congress) won this seat in 1977, which is hardly surprising since this is a Congress citadel. The party has lost from here only a couple of times, and that to the socialists. Meinjinlung Kamson, who won the 1996 election for the Congress, in fact made it his fourth time in a row.
