Barring a hiccup in 1957, when the Praja Socialist Party candidate won this seat has only voted Congress till 1991. In fact, the PSP candidate who won in 1957 contested the next time as the Congress candidate and won. In 1996, three-time Congress MP Manikrao Gavit extended his term by defeating the BJP candidate by 33,000 votes.
