Barring a few times, this constituency has voted decisively for the Communists in most of the elections. The 1996 poll threw a surprise when sitting Marxist MP T J Anjalose was defeated by the Congress's V M Sudheeran. Interestingly, in the past, the CPI-M has not won from this seat twice in succession; that honour goes to its counterpart, the CPI.
