Another seat the BJP won in 1996, despite a virtual non-existence in the previous elections. In fact, Krishna Marandi, who was the JMM MP from here in 1991, found himself in the third position. In the second position was Vijay Singh Soy, who had come second as the Congress candidate in 1991.
