In Photos: Pakistan beat India in Asia Cup thriller

Shahid Afridi emerged hero as Pakistan's sealed a final over victory by one-wicket over traditional rivals India in the Asia Cup on Sunday.

He came up with a stupendous show at the fag end of the match, hitting successive sixes in Ravichandran Ashwin's last over, as Pakistan overhauled India's modest total of 245.

Afridi first hit a six over deep extra cover and then over long on, as he scored 34 not out, including two fours and three sixes, off only 18 balls.

Mohammed Hafeez (75) and Maqsood scored 87 runs for the fifth wicket and, after the IPL's new million dollar man Dinesh Karthik fluffed his lines by missing a stumping off the latter, added another 37.

Hafeez's innings had three fours and two nicely hit sixes, including a pulled one off Mohammed Shami's bowling.

With this defeat, India's chances of making it to the finals are bleak, while a Pakistan - Sri Lanka summit clash looks imminent.

Earlier, riding on some brilliant counter-attacking cricket from Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu India set Pakistan a total of 245.

Pakistan surprisingly opened the bowling with off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez.

He was struck for a four by India opener Shikhar Dhawan in the first over, but got his revenge when he had the left-hander leg before in his next over.

At the other end, Rohit Sharma was in control and played with fluency.

Rohit chose Junaid Khan for special treatment, particularly when the bowler dropped it short.

In one instance the batsman dispatched a short-length delivery towards mid-wicket for a huge six.

Captain Virat Kohli, who came in at No 3 looked a little circumspect and his innings lasted barely 11 balls.

Pakistan made a slight fielding change and the tactic worked. With no slip fielders in place, Kohli looked to dab a wide delivery from Umar Gul, only to edge it straight to wicketkeeper Umar Akmal.

The Kohli-Rohit duo added 38 runs for the second wicket.  

A 52-run stand between Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayadu helped India get out of a precarious situation.

There was a lull in the middle, but later Rayadu (58 from 62 balls) hit a half-century and  Ravindra Jadeja (52 not out from 42 balls) took India to a respectable position.

Rayudu was involved in a 59-run partnership with Jadeja before opening up with 10 overs to go. 

Jadeja made full use of a reprieve on 12, when Hafeez dropped a sitter to post his ninth half-century.
