India found the winning touch after a brilliant all-round display to thrash England by 127 runs in the second One-day International, in Kochi, on Tuesday.

Riding on captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 72 and Ravindra Jadeja's 61, the hosts first amassed 285, and then skittled out the visitors for a paltry 158, in just 36 overs, to level the five-match series 1-1.

Dhoni continued his rich vein of form to steer the hosts to a challenging total after they were reduced to 119-4 in 26.2 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir fell cheaply after opeong the batting for India.

Gambhir hit Dernbach to the fence off the fifth ball of his second over, the first boundary of the Indian innings. But the bowler hit back with the next delivery, cleaning up Gambhir for 8.

Steven Finn then bagged the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane (4) with the third ball of the next over to make it double celebration for England.

Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh eased the pressure a bit, adding 53 runs off 65 balls for the third wicket.

A boundary by Yuvraj (off Woakes) in the 12th over helped the home team get past the 50-run mark.

Suresh Raina came out to replace Yuvraj, who was adjudged leg-before wicket by umpire Steve Davis despite the fact that Tredwell's delivery kissed the latter's glove while he attempted a sweep-shot.

Raina started off with a six off Tredwell over deep square leg, even as Kohli struggled, particularly against Samit Patel.

The home team reached the 100-run mark in the 23rd over, courtesy a six by Kohli off Patel.

Raina brought up his fifty off 66 balls with a boundary to the backward point region, but in pursuit of quick runs lost his off-stump to Finn in the 40th over.

India did miserably in the batting Powerplay, adding just 22 runs and losing Raina's wicket in the process.

Ravindra Jadeja (61 not out) joined captain Dhoni and the pair rallied the team.

Dernbach had the Indian captain caught by Joe Root at sweeper cover in the final over, which also saw Jadeja get to his sixth ODI fifty.

The over cost England 20 runs, Dernbach finished with figures of two for 73 off eight overs.

India eventually managed 285 for five in their stipulated 50 overs.

Just as England looked like settling down after the initial jolt, Bhuvneshawr Kumar rocked the visitors' run-chase with a double strike in three deliveries.

Cook, who was looking solid, missed a good length delivery off Kumar, the first ball of the 11th over, and the umpire signalled the dismissal of the batsman.

Cook's 17 came from 27 balls and was studded with three boundaries.

With the Nehru stadium wicket providing assistance to the bowlers in the second half of the match, the Indians exploited the conditions to the hilt and bundle out the visitors cheaply.

Jadeja returned in the 31st over for a double strike as he dismissed Joe Root and Chris Woakes (0) in the space of four balls to leave England tottering at 132 for seven.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been struggling for some time, played his part with three wickets in his two overs as he polished off the England tail -- James Tredwell (1), Steven Finn (0) and Jade Dernbach (2).

The visitors lost six wickets in six overs as India won the match with 14 overs to spare.
