It's the first overseas Test win for MS Dhoni and Co. since they beat West Indies at Sabina Park, Jamaica, in July 2011.
Team India had gone 15 Tests sans a win thereafter, losing to England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in the process. In fact the team suffered 0-4 thrashing in England the last time they toured followed by a similar defeat Down Under.

If Ishant Sharma (7-74) won the man of the match for his career-best bowling effort, the contributions of Ajinkya Rahane (103), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (36 & 52; 6-82), Murali Vijay (24 & 95) and Ravindra Jadeja (68 and three wickets) were equally important in ensuring Team India's second ever win at Lord's, and first since 1986.
The result also gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, the first Test at Trent Bridge (Nottingham) having ended in a draw.
