- Michael Clarke captained Australia for the first time in a World Cup game. In fact, Australia were playing under a new captain in a major tournament for the first time since 1999 (excepting the odd instances when regular captain Ricky Ponting was not available).

- Mohammad Hafeez became the first spinner to open the bowling for Pakistan.

- Shane Watson's 81 equalled the highest individual score against Pakistan. Bangladesh's Nazimuddin had also made 81 at Nairobi Gym on 02-09-2007. Incidentally the previous highest individual score by an Australian batsman against Pakistan before this match was David Hussey's 40 not out at Melbourne on 05-02-2010.

- The 16th over of Australian innings (bowled by Mohammad Sami) produced 28 runs with David Hussey hitting four sixes. This is the second most expensive over in World Cup's history after Stuart Broad's 36-run over against India at Durban on 19-09-2007.

- David Hussey became the second batsman to hit five sixes in an innings against Pakistan, after Bangladesh's Nazimuddin (see above).

- The 11 sixes in Australia innings are the maximum by any side against Pakistan. Sri Lanka had hit seven sixes at Johannesburg on 17-09-2007.

- Mohammad Sami, by conceding 54 runs in his four overs, recorded the worst figures by a Pakistan bowler in Twenty20 internationals.

- Five wickets fell in 20th over of Australian innings (bowled by Mohammad Aamer), which is a new record. New Zealand had lost four wickets in one over (also the 20th) against India at Johannesburg on 16-09-2007.

- The 20th over of Australian innings was also a maiden. With this Mohammad Aamer equalled Shahid Afridi's Pakistan record of bowling most maiden overs in Twenty20 internationals. Interestingly Aamer has done this after bowling just 42 overs as against 112 overs by Shahid Afridi.

- Australia's total of 191 is the highest by any side against Pakistan in Twenty20 internationals. England had made 185 for 5 at The Oval on 07-06-2009.

- Australia's total is also the highest all-out total in Twenty20 internationals.

- Kamran Akmal, hero of previous game for Pakistan, was dismissed off the very first ball of Pakistan innings. This was the second instance for Akmal to be dismissed off the first ball of team's innings, making him the first batsman to achieve this dubious distinction. He had also suffered similar fate against Sri Lanka at Colombo RPS on 12-08-2009.

- Shahid Afridi suffered his first defeat in fifth match as Pakistan's captain in T20Is.

- Pakistan have now suffered defeat in 11 consecutive international matches against Australia. The sequence started in September 2009 with the Champions Trophy match at Centurion when Australia registered a two-wicket win off the last ball. The break-up of 11 consecutive losses for Pakistan  -- 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 2 T20Is.

- Shane Watson won his maiden Man of the Match award in Twenty20 internationals.
