Australia eased into the semi-finals of the ICC World Twenty20 on Tuesday after a comfortable six-wicket win over the West Indies, a result which eliminated the hosts.

Australia will face Pakistan in the semi-finals on Friday, while Sri Lanka, who earlier produced a last ball win over India, take on England on Thursday.

A passionate capacity crowd at Beausejour Stadium were hoping for a spirited performance from the home side but they crumbled after skipper Chris Gayle was bowled by Dirk Nannes in the first over of the game.

Australia, chasing 106 for victory, knocked off the runs with 3.4 overs to spare, and the loss of just four wickets.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin top-scored with 42.

Ramnaresh Sarwan top-scored for the West Indies with 26 from 31 balls and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul (24) was the only other batsman to get past the 20-run mark in a disappointing batting performance by the hosts after they elected to bat first.

Chasing the lowly target, Australia were given a flying start by David Warner, who blasted 25 from 12 balls.

There was a stutter in the middle as Warner and Shane Watson (5) fell in quick succession, but Haddin took them home with a composed innings of 42 from 46 balls.
