Jaffer to lead Mumbai in Irani Trophy

Opener Wasim Jaffer has been appointed as captain of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team for the 2009-2010 season and would lead the 38-time national champions in their season-opening Irani Cup clash against Rest of India at Nagpur from October 1-5.

Wiry pacer Ajit Agarkar would be Jaffer's deputy in the match, a media release from the Mumbai Cricket Association's joint secretary and senior selection committee convenor Hemant Waingankar said on Saturday.

The team includes uncapped 17-year-old left arm medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar.

The team: Wasim Jaffer (c), Ajit Agarkar (vc), Sahil Kukreja, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Prashant Naik, Vinayak Samant (wk), Ramesh Powar, Iqbal Abdulla, Dhawal Kulkarni, Rahil Shaikh, Murtuza Hussain, Sushant Marathe, Saurabh Netravalkar and Onkar Khanvilkar. Coach: Pravin Amre.
