Rohit leads the Deccan charge

He had missed out against Rajasthan Royals. Despite his spectacular 73, Deccan Chargers fell short by two runs.

The youngster's superlative unbeaten 68 helped the defending champions edge past Kings XI Punjab by five wickets at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala to keep alive their last four hopes.

It was the team from Hyderabad's seventh victory in 13 matches, their fourth in succession after five straight defeats, and helped them jump to the fourth place in the points table.   

Sharma's 38-ball knock was his eighth IPL fifty and was inclusive of six hits to the fence and three over it.

The Mumbai batsman also forged a 66-run third-wicket stand with T Suman (43) to put the Deccan chase back on track after the loss of two early wickets.

The right-hander hit Shalabh Srivastava for what was the 500th six of the IPL, which was preceded by a boundary.

Srivastava was hit over the ropes in his next over as well as Rohit, looking in superb touch, ensured his team what was in the end a comfortable win.
