India posted their best score on the first day of a Test as they aggregated 375 for 9 in the third and final Test against New Zealand in Wellington on Friday.

India's previous best score on the opening day of a Test was 372 for seven against South Africa at Bloemfontein in 2001-02.

It was India's overall third best score on a single day of a Test, their highest being 386 for one against South Africa in Chennai in 2007-08 followed by 378 versus England at Oval in 1936.

The total is the highest by any nation on the first day of a Test match at the Basin Reserve venue.

Australia's 372 for four in 1973-74 was the previous best at this venue.

India have also surpassed their previous highest at Basin Reserve, Wellington, bettering the 356 in their second innings in 1998-99.
