Statistical highlights of Day 1 in the second Test between India and Australia in Bangalore on Saturday.

# Simon Katich and Shane Watson have shared an opening stand of 99 -- Australia's best at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, surpassing the 91 between Mark Taylor and Michael Slater in March 1998.

# Marcus North, in the course of his best ever innings against India, has completed 1,000 runs in Tests, aggregating 1034 at an average of 36.92 in 19 Tests.

# Suresh Raina has captured his first Test wicket, his victim being Ricky Ponting.

# Ricky Ponting (1939 runs at an average of 47.29 in 25 Tests) has become the top run-scorer for Australia against India in Tests, overtaking Matthew Hayden's run-aggregate of 1,888 runs (average 59.00) in 18 Tests.

# India have lost 10 consecutive tosses between December 2, 2009 and October 10, 2010. Dhoni has lost nine tosses in a row between December 2, 2009 and October 10, 2010, emulating Sunil

Gavaskar's Indian record of losing nine tosses in a row. (Virender Sehwag lost the toss while leading against Bangladesh at Chittagong in January, 2010).

# England's Nasser Hussain is the only captain in Test annals to have lost 10 consecutive tosses between November 29, 2000 and December 6, 2001.

# Shane Watson, for the first time against India, has registered three consecutive fifty-plus innings -- 126 & 56 against India at Mohali, followed by 57 at Bangalore.

# Watson had first achieved the distinction against England in 2009 -- 62 and 53 at Edgbaston followed by 51 at Leeds.

# Watson posted his third fifty against India -- his 11th in Tests.

# Watson, thanks to his aforesaid fifty, has become the first batsman in the present series to aggregate 200 runs – 239 (average 79.66) in three innings.

# Watson has completed 500 runs in 2010, aggregating 513 runs at an average of 39.46, including one century and four fifties, in seven Tests.

# For Australia, Simon Katich, with 675 runs at an average of 56.25 in seven Tests, is the top run-scorer in 2010. His tally includes two hundreds and four fifties.

# Ricky Ponting, during the course of his 77, has completed 21,000 runs in first-class cricket -- 21,076 in 249 matches at an average of 57.11.

# Ponting has posted his eighth fifty against India – his 54th in Tests.
