Sach a record-breaking batsman

< Back Next >
The build up continued in the opening Test against Australia at Bangalore. Tendulkar fell for just 13 in the first essay but rekindled hopes with a steady effort in the second, an effort that brought him 49 runs closer but ended with him being 15 runs short.

  • It is ironical that Tendulkar scored 15 runs in the maiden Test innings against Pakistan (1989) and needed precisely that many runs going into this Test to break the existing mark.

Overall, and strictly for those interested in statistics, it took Tendulkar a-year-and-a-half and 17 more Tests to get the 1285 runs needed.

However, it was perhaps apt that he got the record against Australia, a team against which he has scored 2414-plus of his runs and nine of his 39 centuries.
