Tendulkar, needing another 77 runs to break Brian Lara's world record for most Test runs, walked to a huge cheer from the crowd. He started positively but failed to fulfill the early promise as he fell to a tame dismissal for 13.
He was beaten by a slower delivery from Johnson which he hit straight to the fielder at short cover. India were reduced to 94 for three at that stage.
