South Africa's Dale Steyn was the wrecker-in-chief as he claimed five wickets for 23 runs in eight overs.
Only Dhoni (14) and all-rounder Irfan Pathan (21 not out), who replaced the injured Sachin Tendulkar, reached double figures.
Four batsmen made ducks while Wasim Jaffer's nine was the
nearest any other batsman came closer to reaching the double
digit.
